The home of the Community Carnival in Ipswich

Welcome to the home of the Community Carnival in Ipswich!

The carnival this year is being held on:

Sunday 24th August 12 - 6pm

Ipswich Community Carnival first paraded through the streets of Ipswich in 2003. Following in the footsteps of the town’s rich history of parades and pageants, the community carnival has become an annual celebration and a growing tourist attraction in the Regions summer calendar. Now in its sixth year, the one day carnival incorporates a walking parade through the town centre and afternoon event in Christchurch Park.

This year’s parade will start with an opening performance outside the New Wolsey Theatre at 2pm. As the colourful parade winds through the town, it will transform the streets into a vibrant fiesta of movement and noise. In celebration of the Olympic handover there will be performances and raising of the towns Olympic flag on the Cornhill at 2.30pm. Passers by can then join in the fun and follow the parade into Christchurch Park.

In the park there will be an afternoon of music, food, entertainments, children’s activities and stalls representing many of the different cultures in Ipswich. To tempt you there will be Portuguese, Zimbabwean, Caribbean and Indian food served all afternoon. Ipswich Community Radio’s Global Village tent and the Co-op’s Big Top will be hosting Permission to Rock, Indian Taul drummers, Zimbabwean singers the Children’s Chinese Drum Ensemble, Portuguese Fado singers and Cuban folkloric and salsa dance.

We invite you to experience the flamboyancy of carnival and join us!
